Nesting: Comes With

“Are you coming with?” was a question asked in Minnesota whenever someone was heading out and wanted to know if someone else was coming along with them to where-ever they were going. Many families, groups, and teams have shorthand for interacting with each other.

“Have we been here?” while still at an event is one family’s way of asking “have we seen and done everything we want to here, and if so, can we leave now?” The first time I heard it, I had no idea what I was being asked. My thinking was that: “we’re still standing here, what are you asking me?” Once it was explained, I found myself using the shorthand too.

Shorthand that comes with insider meanings can become a language of familiarity and friendship – even in the cards we send each other for special occasions or for friendly hello greetings. When sending a written message, include those special phrases that only the two of you might recognize. Maybe its: “Those aren’t butterflies!” as a reminder of a road trip on which thousands of something-looking-like-butterflies rose from the road as the car approached; so you called them butterflies only to have someone else say “those are moths” and spoil the joy of it having been butterflies (whether they were or not).

Stories, memories, and even shared challenges can become greeting card notes and messages. Whether it is a one-line prompt or a story told, personal messages bring smiles to the receiver. Choosing to send a card means you are thinking of the person, feeling glad for a friendship, expressing thanks for an act of kindness or a gift received, or perhaps expressing sympathy or support.

Last week, NestingCards wrote about note and thank-you card writing based on things “seen elsewhere”. This week’s seen elsewhere is the May 1st cartoon from The Argyle Sweater in which a Russian Nesting Doll is waiting at a dressing room with five hangers of decreasing-in-size clothing. Laughing out loud, I clipped the cartoon and saved it for comment!  Because…

Each NestingCards set includes seven cards and comes with seven card-matching-sized envelopes. No need to shop for the envelopes – you receive everything you need to mail nested cards or seven individual cards every time you purchase a set of NestingCards. Every card is “clothed” with an envelope and brings smiles to recipients.
