Nesting: Nature, Dolls, & Cards

Nesting happens in nature – animals and humans nest in a variety of ways. Nesting creates a home for adults to raise young; for care and feeding; and for departures to eventually occur. Nesting materials are as varied as the landscape, as colorful as fibers and materials exist, and as smooth or textured as the supplies chosen for construction.

Nesting is spoken of as the series of actions taken while preparing for the birth of human children.  The cleaning, re-organizing, sometimes remodeling, and nursery-appointing activities that create safety and a sense of home for newborns is included in nesting.

In 1890, Russian Nesting dolls were carved by Vasily Zvyozdochkin and designed by Sergey Malyutin as symbols of mothers carrying children with them, of many mothers and children. These nesting dolls, or matryoshka, are written about historically, in novels, and in children’s books. They are collected. The Nesting dolls are sometimes toys and sometimes souvenirs.

NestingCards® was inspired by the nesting dolls and born of the idea that large envelopes can have smaller envelopes and cards tucked inside, until there isn’t room for another card. After several years of researching card and envelope sizes, identifying postal-approved one-stamp mailing sizes, selecting elegant card stock, and beautiful as well as versatile envelopes, NestingCards became a reality.

Telling a story, sharing a memory, creating a treasure hunt, sending a friendly hello, or celebrating a major milestone takes on new charm when sending cards nested one-inside-another. Recipients delight in opening one message after another, or one shared memory in the cascade of cards held in their hands. Recipients often keep the cards – together as a set, separated as framed prints, or tucked in between pages as a bookmark.

NestingCards can bring a smile and the sense of being warmly hugged across the miles, or over fences that are not to be crossed, or through the doors which human beings still may not be allowed to walk. “Thinking of You” or “Sending Best Wishes” on a special occasion or “Happy Birthday” greetings are reasons for card sending, are times recipients enjoy hearing from you.

Whom do you know who would enjoy receiving greetings from you this week?
