As well as being practical, soap and soap dishes can add flair and fragrance to any sink. Washing our hands is more important than ever. All of us can turn this highly emphasized action into a moment of tiny joys for ourselves and our family members.
Soap scents. By tiny joys, I mean that the smell of a soap can transport you to a mountain hike, an ocean-side day, the image of hanging fresh laundry on the line to dry, or to grandma’s kitchen and a home-baked pie. Soap scents range from foods to places, from industrial cleaner or alcohol-based scents to family-friendly fun. Restorative scents like lavender, tea, and chamomile are nice at kitchen sinks and in bathrooms too.
Soap shapes. Not to be outdone by scents, soap shapes range from the traditional bar- or brick-shaped soap to tickle-your-fancy shells, roses, fish, hearts, flowers, balls, Lima bean-shapes, small guest soaps, larger shower-bar soaps, “men’s soap”, and even SoapRocks® that look just like a gemstone but are actually glycerin soaps.
Soap dishes. The dish that holds your soap can inspire joy too. Colorful, themed, shaped, or simply a decorative saucer can add flair to the sink-scape©. New dishes, thrift-store repurposed dishes, and soap-holder specific dishes and trays. We’ve got a soap sized elephant dish in a child’s bathroom. For Christmas, a themed saucer goes in the elephant’s place. Kitchen soaps rest on slotted dishes so the water will drip away. Another bathroom has a beach-found shell that holds a guest-sized soap round.
Soap dispensers. Liquid soaps come in a variety of dispensers. Liquid refills can be put into a variety of handmade, clay, and pottery dispensers. Liquid soaps come in a variety of scents and colors. Functional or beautiful – liquid dispensers can bring joy to hand-washing too.
Bring delight into the mundane. Choose soaps, soap dishes and dispensers that help make hand-washing less of a chore and more of moment of joy!
What are you going to add to your hand-washing spaces to make the time more joyful?
